Natural Materials

The materials used by Esprit Nordique for clothing and footwear are natural. By nature, natural materials are durable, recyclable, and above all biodegradable, unlike those derived from the petrochemical industry.

Wood

The wood used for our clogs and sandals is natural and can return to nature or be used as fuel.

Leather

Leather is a natural, biodegradable material. Its biodegradability and environmental impact vary depending on the processes applied (tanning and finishing), but leather remains a natural material.

We offer vegetable-tanned leather shoes—tanned with natural agents and free from heavy metals such as hexavalent chromium (chrome VI).

Merino Wool

Wool is a natural fiber obtained from shearing sheep. Merino wool comes from a specific breed—the Merino. This natural fiber has remarkable thermal and breathable properties and is biodegradable, thus not harmful to environmental balance.

Silk

Silk is a filament produced by the silkworm. It is a natural material that is soft, warm, and “lustrous.”

Technical Synthetic Fibers

Some of our wool garments include a proportion of technical synthetic fibers—often in socks—to provide the elasticity needed for comfort and to keep them in place on the leg.

Cotton (Organic)

Esprit Nordique also offers summer garments and accessories in cotton, primarily organic cotton, to reduce the impact of this crop on the environment and on health.
